Not the best prof out there for this course, you could learn a lot from other profs, Dave is just too unserious about the course itself.
This is the best prof. in the entirety of Canada and he can teach anything, he is very friendly, good mark giver, very knowledgeable and has a master from queens in astrophysics. If you work hard, you'll get full marks, he is the best of what you can get anywhere in any university.
It's a course with a lot of covid-era things like lack of accountability & teaching from the prof., weird discussion channels with random things being discussed, sometimes even the prof. make you question if he is truly a prof. & if he is genuinely serious about the course. Either you do things his way or you won't have a good time in the course
Lets just say there are other better professors available in this course, take em. Also beware of course surveys, many of the TAs pointed out that there is a reason why it is on D2L and not a truly anonymous platform.
It's kinda obvious that the Professor is himself posting many of the reviews that are 5/5, if the exam is 2 weeks later, how does the review say A+ grades I wonder? Try teaching better - how about this one Dave?
Engaging elective by a passionate, funny prof who makes astronomy easy with minimal math. High GPA booster, online lectures (easy to take notes), fair cumulative mcq exams, and quizzes with guaranteed full marks if you join live class. Follow rubrics, easy A+. Exam questions are straight out of lectures and quizzes.
I do have to agree with my classmates, that the course is not teaching us anything, its just over cramped text production with references and citations and Dave can make a couple extra bucks from the ads on the YT video that are the mandatory lectures that we have to watch. Profit-maxxing pro max, eh Dave?
Dave is an amazing human but really a not so great professor - i am sorry Dave. It just feels like he has delegated his class to an online prerecorded videos on YT, and joins in 1 hr/wk to randomly chat on just about anything, that's not learning, its just Dave trying to be a chill TA rather than a Prof. It did kinda ruin the course for me :_(
Half of your grade is chit chatting (about random stuff every Monday, just post 2 questions from google and you are fine - at the end you'll be talking about your weekends and movies anyways) and more chit chatting in the QAs, this time with references. not a lot of learning, more like memorizing what the prof said and being tested on it
Lectures are on YT and weekly class feels like a discord server, so the only reason you take this course is to get the credits. And learning? nah...you could see his lectures on YT for free, that's all there is in the course. Make you wonder why are you spending $$$ to learn nothing or maybe its a what am i doing with my life question...
